Coordinator of Youth Programs, Whitney Museum of American Art

A full-time position is available in the Education Department of the Whitney Museum of American Art as the Coordinator of Youth Programs. Responsibilities include: The design and management of all aspects of the Whitney’s after school programs for high school students, including programs such as: Youth Insights, Community Advisory Board Leadership Program, Community Partnerships, drop-in teen programs and Summer Program; teaching and creating curriculum for programs; the training and supervision of part-time staff; coordination and tracking of evaluation projects; management of budgets for current and future teen programming; the oversight and management of The Whit, the Museum’s teen site; writing grants and grant reports; meeting and communicating with foundations and donors; contributing to the museum community through publications and conference presentations. Requirements: B.A; Master’s preferred; 3-5 years professional experience, including work with high school students and teachers; museum, administrative, and managerial experience also required. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of educational and developmental theory as well as significant teaching experience. Knowledge of contemporary art and artists’ practice is also imperative. Position requires travel throughout NYC and extended hours for program implementation during the week and on weekends. Curator of Art, Reading Public Museum

The Reading Public Museum seeks an energetic and innovative curator of art collections for the its exceptional collections of European, American and Asian paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, decorative arts and antiquities including ancient Chinese, Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Sumerian, and Pre-Columbian collections. This generalist with strong curatorial background who will curate the Museum’s permanent collections areas and organize and mount temporary art exhibitions, participating in a broad array of curatorial and collections related activities. Responsibilities will include research on the permanent collections, their ongoing interpretation and re-installation including label preparation, and producing relevant scholarly publications related to the Museum’s permanent collections. The curator will develop an acquisitions plan for the Museum, evaluate condition and value of works, and with the collections staff maintain high standards of conservation in preserving the Museum’s collections. Requirements: Master’s Degree in Art History acceptable, PhD preferred. Minimum 5 years of curatorial experience in a Museum. Demonstrated skill at strategically building a collection through gift and purchase. Experience in TMS collections software use desirable. Proven research, writing, and public speaking abilities; computer, editing, and proofreading skills required. Grant writing experience a must.
