Request for Project Proposals - Fleisher Art Memorial
Deadline ASAP : The Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for the 2008-09 school year. The workshops should offer young people between the ages 13 - 18 an exciting opportunity to be introduced to a medium or explore a theme of relevance to this age group and be completed in 4 - 6 hours (2 - 3 sessions) maximum. Teaching artists will be paid $150 for every two hour workshop. Experimental workshop proposals welcome. The sessions will be held on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm. Approximately 15 students attend the Teen Lounge from a variety of levels in art making experiences. The workshops will begin in late October of 2008. Please submit your proposal as soon as possible. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis until a minimum of thirteen proposals have been selected for the 2008 – 2009 academic year. You may submit multiple proposals. Fleisher Art Memorial Seeks Teen Lounge Monitor
Until filled : The new position of Teen Lounge Monitor has been created to coordinate the Teen Lounge program at Fleisher. The position is offered as a paid internship ($3,000 stipend for the academic year) to college seniors or graduate students interested in arts education and gaining experience in program design and management. The Teen Lounge Monitor will oversee and coordinate the activities of the Teen Lounge and will be primarily responsible, along with the participants of the Teen Lounge, for developing a program that reflects the artistic interests of the youth participants and allows for the development of their leadership and social skills. Under the supervision of the CPA Program Coordinator, the Teen Lounge Monitor will support the youth participants in the development of a program structure that creates a welcoming, productive and nurturing program for young people interested in the visual arts. Call for Environmental Art Proposals - Bartram’s Garden
Deadline November 19, 2008 : Bartram’s Garden, a National Historic Landmark on the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, seeks an environmental artist-in-residence for a site-specific, outdoor environmental project that engages the local urban community of Southwest and West Philadelphia and promotes environmental stewardship. Outdoor installation must adhere to the garden collection policies and incorporate consideration of deterring vandalism in an urban environment. The residency period is one to six months between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. Residency includes artist fee, lodging, meal stipend, materials and supplies, and long-distance travel expenses. Eligibility: Artist must be from the Mid-Atlantic region (excluding the greater Philadelphia area). Project budget is $20,000. The budget includes an artist fee of up to 20% of the final art project budget, as well as long-distance travel, accommodations, supplies, materials, and documentation. As part of this fee, the selected artist will be required to submit a budget, produce completed designs and plans for working with the community, and oversee the fabrication and installation of the artwork with community participation. Awarding of project: A selection panel of Bartram staff, community members, and independent curators and artists will review applications. They will make their decision based on the following criteria: 1) Artistic excellence demonstrated by work samples and previous public commissions. Priority will be given to similar outdoor, environmental projects; 2) Quality of proposed project as related to stimulating public participation in artist processes, clear and detailed focus of proposed artwork, and promotion of environmental stewardship: 3) Demonstrated history of successful collaborations with non-profit organizations and community groups. To apply, submit artist biography or resume; proposed project narrative, not to exceed 2 pages, outlining preliminary design, community involvement, budget, and timeline; a CD-ROM with eight images of work completed within the last five years (submit in a protective case with artist name and contact information, with images in a JPG format not exceeding 2 MB, maximum image size in height or width not to exceed 1240 pixels, files named according to image order , e.g., 01.jpg, 02jpg); and one page narrative that includes name of artist and image descriptions (title, medium, size, date of work, and brief description). Liminal Screen Co-Production Residency, Banff New Media Inst.
Deadline November 24, 2008 : The Banff New Media Institute in Canada is accepting applications for a video-based residency that will engage artists, developers, and researchers in a collective critical inquiry into video as a medium. The program dates are February 26 – March 29, 2009. This residency will focus its inquiry on the transitions between screen and life, as the screen reinforces its central position as a ubiquitous communications portal, data visualization surface and frame on an ever more meditated world. Eligibility: Practitioners from all walks of screen-based practice are encouraged to apply to the program. Cooperative Gallery Opportunity - Third Street Gallery
Deadline November 29, 2008 : The Third Street Gallery is seeking artists who are committed to their work and who are actively pursuing professional status in their chosen media. They are interested in reviewing media from all of the fine arts disciplines. Third Street Gallery first opened at Third and Bainbridge Streets in 1972 and is currently housed in a spacious store front location on Second Street in Old City, Philadelphia. Today the cooperative’s twenty-six gallery members work together as a network of support and encouragement to help foster individual artistic achievement and growth. New members admitted in December of 2008 will be invited to exhibit in a new members group show during the summer of 2009 and will receive opportunities to exhibit in shows on a regular schedule. Gallery members often receive reviews and sales have been steady throughout the gallery’s history. Members are responsible to gallery sit once a month, attend monthly meetings and assume responsibilities for the functioning of the gallery. Fees include $200 for initiation and monthly dues of $65. ZKM Summer Fellowships, Karlsruhe, Germany
Deadline November 30, 2008 : The ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany is happy to announce 10 international fellowships, supported by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in conjunction with the research project GAM - Global Art and the Museum. The scholarships are meant to facilitate participation in an international seminar to be directed by Hans Belting and guests. Seminar participants will analyze the situation of art museums, the art market, and art criticism under the spell of globalization. The seminar will take place June 21 - July 1, 2009 in Bad Homburg and Karlsruhe, and will also include excursions to art institutions. The seminar language will be English. Migrating Forms Festival of Film and Video 2009
Deadline December 01, 2008 : Migrating Forms grew out of the New York Underground Film Festival (1993–2008), a grassroots endeavor that evolved into a landmark international venue for documentary, experimental and avant-garde narrative film and video. Over the past fifteen years, notions of "underground" have changed and NYUFF has transformed. Migrating Forms continues in the tradition of supporting and exhibiting underground film and video, focusing on filmmakers working to reinvent and recontextualize established practices to foster new forms of media art. Lower East Side Printshop Special Editions Residency 2009
Deadline December 02, 2008 : The Lower East Side Printshop invites emerging artists of all disciplines and cultural backgrounds to apply for the Special Editions Residency 2009. Between February, 2009 and February, 2010, recipients will collaborate with a Master Printer over a period of three to six months to create a new body of work. The Printshop will provide materials, tools, equipment, studio access, technical assistance, documentation, exhibition opportunities, limited travel and accommodation stipends for artists residing outside New York, and a $2,000 honorarium. RFQ for Multi-Media Public Art Project - Mural Arts Program
Deadline December 03, 2008 : The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program (MAP) has announced a Request for Qualifications for a large-scale, multi-media, multi-work public art project in South Philadelphia. This project, entitled “Journeys South” seeks to produce multiple works of art that explore the history, struggles, and traditions of South Philadelphia in a public setting. The project will explore the theme of immigration and migration as told through the histories of the peoples who settled there and shaped its character over almost four hundred years. Eligibility: artists working in any discipline (e.g., visual artists, poets, writers, performance artists) are encouraged to apply. New Jersey Artists Residency at Digital Stone Project

SF International Women's Film Festival and WFI Shorts Tour

Acadia National Park Artist-in-Residence Program
Deadline January 05, 2009 : The Artist-In-Residence Program at Acadia National Park in Maine offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park. In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available. Call for Window Installation Proposals – Chashama, NYC
Ongoing : chashama in New York City is currently programming its window spaces for 2007. Groups and/or individual artists from any discipline are welcome to apply. Since 1995, chashama has transformed large storefront windows into public spaces for performances and visual installations. This program is geared towards enlivening unexpected places with unique works of art in any stage of development. All storefront windows have speakers to broadcast sound to the passersby and audience. Additionally, each window venue is equipped with non-theatrical lighting. While chashama provides advisory technical and administrative support for these projects, artists are expected to install and strike their projects without assistance of chashama staff. Charlotte Art-in-Transit Program Artist Slide Registry
Ongoing : Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in Charlotte, NC is seeking professional artists for design collaborations and/or public art commissions for its Art-In-Transit program. Over the next few years, Charlotte is building a rapid transit system and will incorporate public art into its stations, park and rides, and maintenance facilities. The program has allocated $2.3 million for art. Design fees range from $5K-$25K: commissions from $25K-$250K. In preparation for Phase I (22 commissions for 2003 - early 2004) and subsequent phases, artists are requested to submit their materials to a new slide registry that will be used to make selections of artists as the system is phased in. Museum Internships - P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center
Ongoing : P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, in Long Island City, NY, offers hands-on unpaid internships for college students, high school students, and community members in all of its departments, providing the opportunity to learn about the operations of a nonprofit art museum and to work alongside some of the world's most exciting contemporary artists and curators. Internships are available in the following areas: 1) Programming and Production, 2) DAP/ Publisher Sales Assistant. Interns are expected to do a substantial amount of administrative work at the same time as taking on more critical responsibilities for the museum's operation. NYC Percent for Art Program Slide Registry
Ongoing : The City of New York Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program provides an important venue for all New Yorkers and visitors to appreciate artwork outside the traditional museum or gallery setting. Percent for Art projects are site-specific and engage a variety of mediaópainting, mosaic, glass, textiles, sculpture, and works that are integrated into infrastructure, or architecture. The Percent for Art artist slide registry is an important component of the Program that allows artists to participate by maintaining a record of their work. The registry is consulted by the architects, panelists, and City agencies for each project. Ongoing : MAiLmeART.com, created by Darren Di Lieto, the founder and editor of LCSV4, is a little project designed to test your skills, make you some money and give you the chance to have a bit of fun. There are also some really cool prizes. Submissions can be envelopes or packages which have been drawn on, painted, dipped in acid, covered in paper mache (anything you want really) but they must look amazing and they must have traveled though the post with the postman able to see the work, so you can’t paint a canvas and wrap it up and post it to Mr. Lieto. The wrapping is your canvas or in most cases an envelope.

The Light Work Artist-in-Residence Program

Viewing Program, The Drawing Center, NYC
Ongoing : The Drawing Center has announced the reorganization of its Viewing Program, which offers an opportunity for emerging artists to present their drawings to the curatorial staff for review, as well as for possible inclusion in the Slide Registry and a Selections exhibition or Drawing Room project. The Viewing Program offers emerging artists valuable opportunities to engage in a critical discussion of their work through one-on-one meetings with the Viewing Program Curator at The Drawing Center and to have images of their work placed on file in the Artist Registry.
