Exhibition "Victory for Tyler" Seeks Alumni Sculptors for Spring Exhibition

The Victory for Tyler alumni exhibition series seeks entries from all Tyler alumni who consider their medium to be sculpture for this biennial exhibition benefiting Tyler exhibitions and public programs. The exhibition takes place April 1 - 26, 2009 at the Ice Box Project Space, 1400 N. American Street, Philadelphia. Eligible media include installations, performance-based work, time-based work, and time-based media. Juror: Sarina Basta, Curator, Sculpture Center. The Wood Turning Center, a nonprofit dedicated to the education, preservation, and promotion of the art and craft of wood and lathe-turned art, is seeking a full time Exhibitions/Collections Coordinator. This person is responsible for overseeing and developing Center's on site and touring exhibitions; related publication/catalogue program; and handling basic registrar functions for the Center’s collection of objects and its archive. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Development and monitoring of individual exhibition project schedules and budgets, including on site and touring exhibitions; correspondence with lenders and preparation of loan agreements; exhibition publications; exhibition public relations; review and maintenance of administrative systems for collections, including cataloging, deeds of gift, retrieval, and intellectual access; management of incoming and outgoing object loans; development and maintenance of a system for making the Center’s collection and archive accessible on the web (with the assistance of programmers); gallery and collections area temperature/humidity controls and security system; maintenance of gallery installations and storage areas. Qualifications: A minimum of 2 – 3 years experience with exhibition and collections management, including accessioning and description/cataloging, is required as are strong computer and writing skills, familiarity with PC platform, word processing, databases, and collections management software. apexart wants to come to you. Any city, any town, anywhere in the world. They are offering a one-time franchise opportunity where apexart will come to your city and appoint you the director of your own temporary non-profit exhibition space. For a four-week exhibition, and in the months preceding, you will be the director and/or curator and/or staff of your own institution with a budget, a salary, and complete control. apexart will provide up to $10,000 USD in funding, along with the necessary guidance to make your curated exhibition happen, accompanied by an apexart brochure. In addition, prior to your show, apexart will arrange to bring you to NYC for three days, all expenses paid, to visit apexart and meet the staff.
To apply, submit up to a 250-word statement on why apexart should come to you. You may use your 250-word count in anyway you think best. You can emphasize the idea, the execution or the content. Decide on your own the best way to sway the judges. Applications will be accepted until midnight December 1, 2008 EST, from anyone, anywhere in the world. (Postmark) The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) is pleased to announce a Philadelphia call for artist proposals for creative-based, multi-site interpretive projects for "Philadelphia Quest for Freedom." Proposals must be for projects that will be ready for production and implementation between September 2009 and July 2011. Selected projects will receive production and marketing/PR support from the GPTMC/Philadelphia Quest for Freedom. For this project, GPTMC is seeking proposals from the local creative community for projects that integrate historical content and creative approaches to marketing and audience engagement related to Philadelphia’s African-American and Underground Railroad history. The Center for Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), in partnership with NewCourtland is pleased to offer Philadelphia area artists the opportunity to participate in an exciting, new, community-based fellowship. Through the NewCourtland Artist Fellowship, eight artists will be selected to bring innovative and engaging art-making to residents of the vast NewCourtland network. In order to apply, artists are asked to develop an intergenerational project that brings NewCourtland’s residents together with school age children/teens to create a meaningful experience and an exciting artistic project. Work created by residents and their school age partners during the 2009 Fellowship Program will be exhibited with the work of the artist fellows in a large, well publicized exhibition. Accepted artists will receive a fellowship award of $2,500 (to be paid in two $1,250 installments). Once artists receive this award they will be responsible for conducting ten 1.5 hour workshops weekly for NewCourtland residents (10-15 residents) and their student partners (10-15 students). Artists will also be required to attend several preliminary meetings, one aging sensitivity training session and participate in the spring 2010 exhibition.
