The Leeway Foundation Announces Grant Opportunities
for Philadelphia Area Women
2002 Awards Category: Photography and Works
on Paper

The Leeway Foundation's next FINE ARTS grant
cycle will be for the category of Photography and Works on Paper.
Grants of $5,000 to $50,000 each are being offered to outstanding
Philadelphia area women artists in two program tracks: Emerging
Artists and Established Artists.
To qualify, applicants must be women artists who are 20 years of
age or older; current, permanent residents of Bucks, Chester, Delaware,
Montgomery or Philadelphia County in the state of Pennsylvania for
at least two years and must have exhibited their photography or
works on paper in at least one juried show. Students enrolled in
an undergraduate degree-granting programs are ineligible.

Applicants may submit to one of two programs:
Grants to Emerging Artists A total of up
to $55,000 may be awarded in Grants to Emerging Artists in two categories:
The Edna Andrade Grants, in the amount of $15,000 each, Inspiration
Awards in the amount of $7,500, and the Seedling Grants which are
$5,000 each. (Additional eligibility criteria apply for emerging
artists.)
Grants to Established Artists include: one Bessie Berman Grant,
in the amount of $35,000, for artistic excellence of a woman 50
years or older; up to two Leeway Grants for Excellence, in the amount
of $30,000 each, and up to two Leeway Grants to Achievement, which
are $20,000 each.
All grants are awarded at the juror’s discretion. The Leeway Foundation
is a private, charitable foundation established in 1993 to promote
the welfare of women and to benefit the arts. The Foundation’s primary
grant program supports individual women artists of the Philadelphia
five-county area and encourages their increased recognition and
representation in the community. Leeway Grants are made in a selected
visual or literary arts discipline each year.
