About the Exhibition

Ava Blitz's installation of cast cement waveforms either rhythmically move or quietly rest, as if petrified. Her work draws on organic, ambiguous symbols and calls to mind fossils, artifacts, and growth, decay, and renewal. alluding to the historical record and acknowledging the passage of time, even as it points to the future. Their multiple meanings range from the biological and geological to the botanical and anthropological. Blitz manipulates tone, color and texture to engage the larger space while maintaining the intimate human scale of each individual piece. She also employs intaglio techniques from her past experience as a printmaker to mark the surfaces.
