| Ava Blitz's installation of cast
cement waveforms either rhythmically move or quietly rest, as
if petrified. Her work draws on organic, ambiguous symbols and
calls to mind fossils, artifacts, and growth, decay, and renewal.
alluding to the historical record and acknowledging the passage
of time, even as it points to the future. Their multiple meanings
range from the biological and geological to the botanical and
anthropological. Blitz manipulates tone, color and texture to
engage the larger space while maintaining the intimate human scale
of each individual piece. She also employs intaglio techniques
from her past experience as a printmaker to mark the surfaces.
