About the Gallery
Taller Puertorriqueño, Inc. was established in 1974 as a community based cultural education organization. Taller's primary purpose is to preserve, develop and promote Puerto Rican artistic and cultural traditions, as well as to support a better understanding of other Latin American cultures and our common heritage. Taller is situated in the largest Puerto Rican neighborhood of Philadelphia, the North-Kensington area.

Taller serves as a unique cultural educational resource to its community as well as to the City of Philadelphia in general. Taller Puertorriqueño occupies two buildings, the Educational Center and the Bookstore & Gallery Center, which are located within a block of each other. The Educational Center houses the Cultural Awareness Program (CAP), the Robert P. Hernandez Theater; utilized for such community events as performances, meetings and other cultural activities, and the Youth Artist Program (YAP). The Bookstore & Gallery Center houses the Julia de Burgos Bookstore, The José Campeche-Francisco Oller Gallery, and the Eugenio Maria de Hostos Archives and Museum collection.
