| Opening reception, September

As SPECTOR’s fifth year begins, we relish in the successes
of the artists who began their careers with us while we continue
to introduce new ones. This fall we present four artists who are
bound by their love of thread and yarn.
Eric Steinberg introduces his metaphors for life in folk sampler
inspired weavings. The two color pieces are spare and graphic
full of "Home Sweet Home"-esque type thoughts or things
that make you go hmmm...
Brian Bazemore’s stitched fetish dolls is a homage to people
in his life. He strives for spiritual connection to people through
his work using fabric and found materials like buttons, hair and
broken jewelry.
Lauren Ashley uses a traditional style of quilting known as red
work to visualize nightmares and dark fantasies. Known for her
childlike but ominous sculpture, she has maintained her theme
but changed to a medium where the imagery feels less menacing.
Whitney Lee finds the subjects of her work on Internet cyber
sex sites. She digitally breaks down photographs of "Cyber
Girls of the Week" into grids, which she translates into
hook rugs, a particularly unsexy medium. The result is outstanding,
especially on the 4’ X 6’ full body rug.
