Opening reception: Friday, June
13, 6 - 9 pm
Summer hours: By appointment only
Drawing For It is a diverse collection of works, within which
you can feel each artist’s hand.
Randall Sellers’ drawings are generally
no bigger than 2 inches square but can contain an entire imaginary
universe within them. He creates with his naked eye what others
need a magnifier to view. Marc Manning scrapes,
scribbles, rubs, and burns his pencil and ballpoint drawings of
repeated images like chairs and fire. Andrew Jeffrey Wright
and Jombi Superstar work like they are defacing
the inside back cover of a high school textbook. It’s raw
and insightful.
Isaiah Zagar and Rob Matthews
both work autobiographically. Zagar known mostly for his huge
outdoor murals is showing small straw drawings, and Rob Matthews
will exhibit his beautifully rendered graphite self portraits.
Isaac Lin’s and Merrilee Challis’
works are of imaginative worlds full of bizarre creatures with
human qualities.
Drawing For It contains a group of works by each artist,
which are strung together like a collection of short stories.
This is the last show of the season at SPECTOR, which reopens
in September with Fiber Friends. Summer hours are by appointment
only.
