The Schuylkill Gallery will be participating in Philadelphia’s month long celebration of the fiber arts by hosting the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers’ annual exhibition Celebration of Fibers. This exhibition coincides with the University of the Arts hosted International Fiber Symposium titled “Materiality Meaning: Examining Fiber and Material Studies in Contemporary Art and Culture” (March 6 - 8, 2008). The Symposium has inspired fiber arts exhibitions in galleries throughout the Philadelphia area and will draw many artists and art appreciators from around the world.

The Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers has carried on its mission of fostering the skills of weaving and the fiber arts since 1952. The Guild of Handweavers’ annual juried exhibition serves as a showcase for both the experienced and emerging fiber artist. Celebration of Fibers at the Schuylkill Gallery will be a venue that displays some of the most innovative, skilled and varied fiber works created in the area.
