About the Exhibition

Opening reception: Saturday, November 8, 7 – 11 pm

Brad Bailey (NY), Shawn Doyle (Phila) & Eric Midgett (Phila) will deejay the opening reception.

The site-specific installation entitled; "Exist" takes on the definition and theme of existence.

Definition > to be present, breathe, continue, endure, happen, live, subsist. Works in the show are drawn from her curiosities on life, surroundings, pre-determined destinies, cultural & gender conditioning, and taboos.

She has created large-scale drawings built on walls off-site, and installed in the gallery. A bench to sit in the space, a garden, and an aquarium are central, on the fourth wall is projected a video produced by the artist. The film is an excited document of the artist’s daughter changing over the past three years, as well as commenting on the relationship between parent and child.

Jessica is a draftsman, painter, and video artist currently living in Philadelphia. She has screened her videos in numerous New York venues this year, including the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival, Remote Lounge in Lower East Side, and Storefront 1838 in Harlem. Her work can be seen as part of the online art zine www.femalepersuasion.net The cyber site will be on public exhibit concurrently at cherrydelosreyes gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Jessica also has produced limited edition T-shirts based on imagery of "exist" with business partner Emily Hung. Their work was included in the "T-shirt Show" at Daniel Silverstein Gallery in NY.
