The Print Center 75th Annual International Competition :

Printmaking

March 24 - May 5, 2001

About The Exhibits

Opening Reception: Saturday, March 24, 2001 3:00-5:30 p.m.

The Print Center's 75th Annual International Competition: Printmaking features prints by some of the finest contemporary artists from around the world. On Saturday, March 24th, 2001, esteemed juror, Marjorie Cohn, The Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints at the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University Art Museums will give a Gallery Talk in which she will discuss the works included in the exhibition. Her talk will be immediately followed by the opening reception.

The Print Center's Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious exhibitions of its kind and is the oldest juried exhibition for printmaking and photography in the United States. Alternating each year between printmaking and photography, it provides a unique opportunity for local and international artists to compete in a forum which emphasizes individual talent and expressiveness rather than a specific exhibition topic.

This year over 690 slides were submitted. From these submissions, Ms. Cohn selected 25 artists to send 10 works for a second round of jurying. "It is only when you see the prints themselves that technique becomes paramount for effect, that scale has relevance to subject, and that you fall in love."

This year's Print Center Honorary Council Award of Excellence ($700.00) is awarded to Janet Culbertson for her Transfer Drawing, "The Canoeist". Additional awards include The Print Center Selection Award (a solo exhibition at The Print Center) given to Anne Chernow and Diana Jacobs. John Ittman, Curator of Prints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, selected prints by Charles Richie and A Leo Nash for inclusion in The Print Center collection at the Museum .
