About the Exhibition

Since 2003, MYX has invited all Philadelphians between the ages of 9-24 (Philadelphia's Youth Generation) to capture the spirit of their city and youth culture through the creation of two original murals. Entitled Y PHILLY: An Identity Mural by Philadelphia's Youth Generation, the completed murals are then presented as a gift to a pre-selected community abroad. This year, MYX will paint for AVEPANE, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and education of persons with mental retardation, in Caracas, Venezuela. Participation in the mural painting is free of charge and no particular artistic skills are required. Art supplies will be provided at the MYX Gallery or guests may bring their own. Co-Sponsored by Casa de Venezuela, Delaware Valley. Ask MYX to arrange a private painting session for your school or youth group in October and November.

On October 26, 2005, Innovation Philadelphia hosted a complimentary dessert reception for MYX at its center city office.
Entitled DESSERT MYX: A Sweet Reception for the Multicultural Youth eXchange, the event featured an evening of fine desserts by Café Rx and a silent youth art auction benefiting MYX. A highlight of the evening was the live auction of winning entries of the MYXed Feelings: Portraits with Attitude art contest in which students were asked to make a strong statement about their individual identities through self-portraiture. DESSERT MYX was a great success and MYX would like to thank Richard Bendis, Kelly Lee and all the staff at Innovation Philadelphia for their generous support.
