Norman Soong’s “Coffee Shop Series” is a reflection on the activities taken place around this generation’s favorite meeting place, the coffee shops: conversation, meditation, studying, conferencing, day dreaming, snoozing, etc. While the postures are mostly sketches on the spot, the surroundings are often stylized to suit the paintings’ compositions. The color schemes are artificially chosen. Through this work, he wishes to bring a knowing smile to his viewers.

George Shinn explores ideas at first on his Mac, developing a digital template, then transferring the compositions to canvas for enlargement and translation. His work is non-committal, non-judgemental. He portrays a world of imaginary and satirical faces and figures.
