Value City is an opportunity to look at contemporary
art in terms of its worth and value; worth and value meaning
material, conceptual, humanitarian and utilitarian. The exhibition
reveals the two measures and how they differ for each artist,
for the viewer and also, in relation to art and it’s
history of production and commerce. The exhibition houses
the use of non-traditional materials, ephemeral installations
and instances where the “work” is actually an
intangible idea that cannot be purchased. During a time of
economic uncertainty, five artists re-define the balance between
concept and material value.
SSEWARD’s Monochrome Projects are an ongoing experiment
in collaboration and deconstructing ideas about selling, buying,
and making art. On behalf of SSEWARD, Scott Bickmore invites
you to Little Berlin to participate in a live art-making project
and later, collect revenue for the work you have done. Everyone
is encouraged to bring materials. For more info and further
instructions please visit monochromesproject.blogspot.com
About the Gallery
Little Berlin is an artist-run collective and gallery space
located in the North Philadelphia neighborhood of Kensington.
Founded in 2007, it became a collective organization in March
of 2009. This alternative space is dedicated to uniting members
both in and outside the artistic community to engage in collaborations
that further the discussion of how contemporary art is created
and experienced. |
