Work by
Frieda Fehrenbacher
February 6–March 18, 2001 |
About the Exhibit
Professor Frieda M. Fehrenbacher taught freshman
drawing and design in the Basics Department at Moore College of
Art & Design for 28 years. She was an accomplished artist whose
work is shown throughout the Philadelphia area and published in
a book titled Salt & Pepper: A Tale Between Two Covers. She was
also a talented violinist, an avid collector of post-World War II
objects and a well-known community activist in her Fairmount neighborhood.
She died of cancer January 24th, 2000. Students, faculty, alumnae,
friends and neighbors sorely miss her.
Following her death, her family and friends established a memorial
scholarship fund in her name. The Frieda M. Fehrenbacher Memorial
Scholarship Fund has raised over $114,000 to provide young women
with the opportunity to explore their artistic vision. Frances and
Bayard Storey have made it possible to endow the Fund permanently.
Thanks to their generosity, Frieda’s legacy will be sustained for
future generations of aspiring women artists.
