Pierce’s recent work concentrates
on the human body, often in abstracted or transmuted form. The
images in the Still Life series use extremely soft focus to obscure
superficial detail, bringing gesture and color to the fore and
giving the print a surface quality reminiscent of expressionist
painting. Beneath these surfaces float enigmatic feminine figures,
neither convincingly artificial nor entirely real.
