First Friday Reception: April 6, 5 – 7 pm.
Jim Houser’s paintings are the system by which he actively catalogs the images and noises, which command his attention. Repetitive floral and fauna motifs reminiscent of Scandinavian graphic design meet adolescent-style doodling of humans with oversized heads and line-drawn ogres. His installations, comprised of his paintings, original music compositions, and sculptures, serve as a map of the contents of his head, particularly his love of language and a fascination with the human need to communicate. This Beating Heart Acts As a Timer includes meditations on these themes: sickness and death, war terminology and code breaking, decay and rebirth. |
