Opening reception:
First Friday, December 4, 6 - 10 pm
Sharon Taffett was moved by some exquisite "shoes" constructed
entirely of fresh flowers at the Philadelphia Flower Show. With
a recent lusting for a pair of bejeweled stilettos by famed Italian
Shoe designer Renee Caovilla, fresh in her mind, she was inspired
to indulge her inner girly fantasies and began creating her very
own versions. The one item no self-respecting goddess of femininity
should ever be without-absolutely fabulous shoes!
She transformed single shoes from Payless into works of art that
would turn Valentino red with envy. These one of kind shoes are
outrageous. ladies and gentleman, you don't have to have a foot
fetish to see that she has taken footwear to another level. One
shoe is completely covered in dime store candy while another is
made from strand of gold and costume jewelryar. Sharon is a collector
and whether it's her serious collection of 200 plus antique cameos,
a miniature collection of portraits on ivory or items accumulated
and found to bedazzle shoes, it's in her blood. As the daughter
and granddaughter of artists, she ate art for breakfast. An art
historian by training, she has brought the visual and artistic
aesthetic into her own life in a myriad ways. Her largest ongoing
project is the interior design of her home that began as a shell.
She delights in, and is fueled by, an almost compulsive need to
make all things "pretty."
Sharon is a museum and theatre enthusiast, travel addict, jewelry
junkie, concert freak, and a self admitted shoe whore. Her drugs
of choice are chocolate and baked goods. When she is not in one
of the 40+ countries she has traveled with her gang, she sits
on several boards and is committed to a host of causes. But most
of all, she is devoted to her family and appreciates all the time
her husband, David spent in the kitchen preparing meals for their
children, Jordan and Lily, while she was in the "zone"
passionately redesigning shoes.
These pumps are both campy and elegant. A perfect fit for Bambi
Gallery. We are tickled pink to show the crème de la crème
of artistic footwear. Sharon Taffet's proceeds with be shared
between Hadassah and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
