About the Exhibition
Opening reception: Saturday, July 19, 5 - 9 pm
Art Star is pleased to present My Royalty, an exhibition by the AYM Collective. Aliyah Gold, Yoko Tazaki, & Monika Krol make up the local jewelry collective. There will be live music courtesy of Jack McBrearty & light refreshments at the opening reception.
The collective will present their latest jewelry designs, which are inspired by their personal interpretations of a common theme: royalty. Like many children, Aliyah grew up with the tales of kings and queens read to her at bedtime. Her memories of these stories have served as the impetus for her new collection. As a Japanese American citizen, Yoko chose to acknowledge her heritage by using a crest that is forever reserved for the imperial family. Her continuing interest in floral patterns led her to explore the magnificence of Japanese crests and their significance within her own culture. Monika chose to make jewelry for the people she admires most, lavishing them in jewels fit for royalty. Each piece is made to reflect the personality of the recipient. In this show the AYM Collective invites the viewer to keep their own ideas of royalty alive within them. The ladies of the AYM Collective all received their BFA degrees from the University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA) in metalwork & jewelry.
