Opening reception and book signing: Friday, January 22, 5
- 8 pm
New Orleans native John
Woodin first photographed the buildings of New Orleans
in August 2004, wishing to document the city's unique vernacular
architecture. He returned one year later, just after Katrina's
devastation, to shoot images of the same buildings, or in
some cases the empty lots where they had stood. He has added
to this remarkable visual narrative since then, capturing
compelling details of the city's erosion and regrowth.
John Woodin has exhibited his work at the Allentown Museum
(PA), the Lawrence Gallery (Rosemont College, Rosemont), Fort
Mason Center (San Francisco), and University of Bratislava
(Bratislava, Slovakia), and in Philadelphia at the University
of the Arts, Tyler Gallery, Temple Gallery, Photo West Gallery,
and other venues. His work has appeared in U.S. and World
Report, Ladies Home Journal, American Crafts
and other publications; his photographs are in collections
including the Library of Congress, the Philadelphia Museum
of Art, and the National Museum of Art.
John Woodin will be signing copies of his book City of
Memory, New Orleans Before and After Katrina (2009, Center
for American Places at Columbia College Chicago) at the opening
reception.
