Opening reception: Thursday, April 29, 5 - 7 pm
The Center for Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA), in cooperation
with Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts,
is pleased to present Selections From Cluster, an
Exchange Exhibition.
As part of the exhibition exchange, Career Development Program
Fellows from the Center for Emerging Visual Artists will also
exhibit their work at the PittsburghCenter for the Arts from
September through November 2010. The Pittsburgh Center for
the Arts is located at 6300 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
This exhibition exchange is the third installment of an ongoing
collaboration by CFEVA and PF/PCA to strengthen the artistic
dialogue between Pittsburghand Philadelphia.
The artists exhibiting in Selections From Cluster
include Dee Briggs, Connie Cantor, Nayda Collazo–Llorens,
Kyle Houser, Ben Kehoe, Jacob Koestler, Michael Sherwin, and
Lenore Thomas. Cluster was originally presented at The Pittsburgh
Center for the Arts and curated by Adam Welch. The Philadelphiapresentation
of this exhibition was curated by Amie Potsic. Selections
from Cluster features large-scale painting, metal and
ceramic sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and photography.
“The intent of this exhibition is to present these artists’
works as individualized investigations and processes that
collectively displayed under the same roof develop a spatial
device of connections as a grouping – a “cluster.”
These connections, be they esoteric, direct, juxtaposed and
or seemingly commonplace, elicit a prime rudiment of artistic
discourse – artists working with what their interests
are to profess what they know and do not know, for a purpose
that is both self and collectively informing,” explains
Adam Welch, Curator at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
About the Center
The Center For Emerging Visual Artists, formerly Creative
Artists Network, was founded in 1984 by Felicity R. "Bebe"
Benoliel to encourage the career development of emerging visual
artists. Since then, the organization has worked steadily
harder to provide the support essential to talented individuals
building careers in the visual arts. The Center dedicates
itself to making art careers viable for those who choose them,
helping emerging artists reach their audiences, and promoting
interest and understanding of emerging visual art among citizens
of the community. |
