About the Exhibition
Opening reception: First Friday, February 5, 7 - 10
pm
Space 1026 is excited to present It Was Good While It
Lasted, a joint exhibition by Blake E. Marquis and Justin
Van Hoy. Having met six years ago while working together at
the Los Angeles-based design firm Studio Number-One, these
two friends have staid in close touch ever since.
Showing together for the first time, Marquis and Van Hoy
utilize the tools of screening printing to create of one-of-a-kind
crisp, graphic images with different results. Blake uses screenprinting
with more of a painterly approach, applying many layers to
cover large areas often on handmade paper. Justin is a bit
more conventional with his technique but recently has been
incorporating distressing techniques to rapidly age each piece
in unique ways.
Justin Van Hoy was born in Charleston, SC in the winter of
1981. He studied graphic design at Winthrop University. He
has since moved west, to Los Angeles where he is a freelance
designer and art director. Most recently he has started a
gallery / creative hot spot in Highland Park with a few friends
/ associates... www.thislosangeles.com
Blake E. Marquis was born in New Hampshire. He studied design
at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He's also a founding partner
of the creative outfit, Mistress. He currently lives and works
in Brooklyn, NY.
