Initially, I take photos as a way to step back and look/think about my three-dimensional installation work. Then, I make something out of them that is quite separate and complete in itself. The grid pattern sets up a visual rhythm. The images within may be looked at individually, or collectively as pieces that make up a whole. (This is really how I expect all of my work to be seen.) I use Polaroid film because it speeds things up, but also because of the somewhat unpredictable results. This latter quality also serves to move the process away from straight documentation.

Repetition and pattern are significant elements in my three-dimensional work. I work primarily with fabric coated with rabbit skin glue that I sew together (very repetitive), and often use repetitive patterns both in construction and as decoration applied to surfaces. I have come to realize that I use these things, in part, to fulfill my own need for rhythmic, meditative activity.
