Repetition Day After Day

Receptions: First Friday February 7, 5 - 7 pm
First Friday March 7, 5 -7 pm

Cellular division. Chanting. Music sampling. Heartbeats. Reincarnation. Cycles of the moon. Assembly line production.

The notion of repetition occurs throughout life and art: from the cellular level to higher thought processes, from the tangible to the metaphysical. Whatever form it takes, repetition is a universal force that carries an intrinsic level of attraction and power. Guest curator Corey Armpriester has selected 12 visual artists whose work reflects upon this theme for Repetition Day After Day, an exhibition presented by InLiquid.com at the Painted Bride Art Center Café Gallery, as part of the "InLiquid at the Bride" series. The exhibition opens First Friday, February 7, 2003, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 pm, and continues through March 29, 2003.

Approaches to the exhibition theme range from formalist applications of pattern to the highly theoretical; some of the artists find solace in the notion of repetition, others as a source of torment.

The artists represented are Elyce Abrams (paintings), Tim Bowen (paintings), Kitty Caparella (lithography), Emily Cohen (video), Edward Dormer (photographic installation), Gwen Fryer (assemblages and encaustic painting), Carolyn Furr (woodblock tiles), Frank LaMonica (photography), Shelley Inez Lependorf (gouache paintings), Jon Manteau (assemblage), Kathryn Pannepacker (weaving), and Leah Reynolds (photography).

The Café Gallery of the Painted Bride Art Center is at 230 Vine Street, Philadelphia. There will be an opening reception on First Friday, February 7, from 5 to 7 pm, and an additional reception on First Friday, March 7, 5 to 7 pm. The exhibition and receptions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday 10 am - 6 pm and Satuday noon - 6 pm; also open to ticket-holding attendees of most Painted Bride performances (prior to performances and at intermission).

About InLiquid at the Bride

The "InLiquid at the Bride" exhibition series was initiated in the fall of 2000 by InLiquid.com director Rachel Zimmerman as a means of tangibly extending the reach of the InLiquid online community while showcasing the richness of art talent in our artist membership base. The series has since expanded its scope to include juried competitions and invitational exhibitions of work by guest artists. The series is hosted by the Painted Bride Art Center, and is presented in the Bride's Café Gallery, at 230 Vine Street in Philadelphia's Old City arts district.
