Nexus/Foundation for Today's Art Student artists from Philadelphia's many art colleges and universities were invited to apply to Nexus Selects , an annual competition for graduating seniors . The program was developed as a vehicle to help situate graduating art students in the professional art world at this transitional point in their careers. Nexus Selects also includes an educational component, which occurred this past spring, in the form of a comprehensive schedule of professional development workshops. These workshops were open to all graduating art school students and were presented free of charge by Nexus' education committee. Students gained crucial knowledge and experience in such areas as writing artist statements and resumes, preparing media/press packets, publicity and networking.
Rebecca Gilbert and Chris Macan , both members of Nexus and InLiquid.com, along with Nexus' executive director Nick Cassway served as the jury. The opportunity to install and exhibit work in a professional gallery space, serves as a milestone in the young artists careers and provides Nexus the opportunity to investigate new trends and thinking in contemporary art. Artists chosen for Nexus Selects are Maggie Casey , Alex da Corte , Tessa Kennedy , Nick Lenker, and Marie Perrin-McGraw ( University of the Arts); Joy Holland ( Tyler School of Art); and Jeffrey Stockbridge ( Drexel University). |
