The images in this exhibition reveal subtle yet poignant fragments of my environment. As I look through the viewfinder of my camera and scan my contact sheets, I am repelled by recognizable imagery and drawn to patches of light and color, faint distinctions of detail, and barely recognizable shapes and forms. Although I am a photographer, a longing for the medium of paint has always been present; and, through this body of work, my need to distort, translate, enhance and blur reality, as a painter would, emerges.

My work reflects my strong desire to learn from nature and create a better world around me. I often use a charcoal rubbing technique that produces prints on traditional Japanese washi paper and apply them to various objects to produce different concepts of layers and space in the natural world. Most importantly, I believe that what is transferred from object to paper is more than just physical markings. Rather, it is the very "soul" of the natural object. The result is a powerful medium to reveal our sacred relationship with the physical world and inspire others to live in harmony with nature.
