Homeland, curated by Philadelphia-based artist Colette Copeland, features work by fourteen video artists from around the world examining issues of immigration, border control, terrorism, power, and authority. The term “homeland,” while having meaning applicable to citizenship, nationalities, and borders, also connotes nostalgia, yearning, and alignment with personal identity. Embracing various genres and artistic strategies including documentary, ‘faux’ documentary, appropriated/found footage, animation, and personal narrative, the works in this exhibition challenge us to question how these issues permeate the physical and meta-physical landscapes that form our conception of “homeland.”
