COLETTE COPELAND
Tiger Butter, video (2003)

The work explores the issue of memory on both a personal and collective level, as it relates to race, identity, and cultural heritage. Drawing from a childhood memory, the video contemplates the legacy of prejudice, questioning the family and cultural inheritance and its impact on the individual. A childhood game references how meaning is formed through acts of accumulation and repetition. The manipulation of time, motion, and space calls into question the veracity of memory and the construction of narrative.
