In 2002 Philadelphia resident Christina E. Johnson received an Independence
Foundation Grant and chose to study fabric resist dyeing techniques
with master teacher in the Ashanti tradition in Ghana, West Africa.
During her month long visit she produced 13 pieces of fabric using
their tie-dye, batik, ‘splash’, and Adinkra stamping
methods. Christina is the founder of Quilters of the Round Table,
a guild of African American quilters in the Philadelphia area.
