Artist Statement

Discrimination is a part of my everyday life one way or another. I had to come to terms with that. As an artist I realize I’m the minority of a minority, for there are very few African American artists. Usually the African American artists I meet come from high-income families. I had to realize that in any nation success evolves around the goal of attaining high income and smart investments. This nation doesn't see my race as a smart investment versus other minorities. I also had to realize that because of my race everywhere I go ignorance will follow. In most stores I go into, eyes will follow. In most jobs I work for, stereotypes will follow. Discrimination exists and it will always be a part of my life, so I used these art pieces as a way to express my feelings towards the subject at hand.
