Design Philadelphia is a citywide series of events featuring gallery tours, museum programs, public lectures, exhibitions, book signings and open houses. The first annual event will bring together universities, museums galleries, retailers and professional associations with the united intention of promoting the design arts in Philadelphia.

DesignPhiladelphia is a new cultural initiative formed to recognize the region’s distinguished design history and to celebrate the region’s contemporary significance as an important international center for advancement in the design disciplines. The city-wide initiative has developed opportunities to enhance the public’s appreciation of the design disciplines through multidisciplinary design projects, exhibitions, and events.

The philadelphia design experiment v.1.0 is a multidisciplinary design exhibition that unites seven Philadelphia-area college-level design schools to present proposals and projects that will offer potentially progressive and innovative design solutions addressing life in contemporary Philadelphia. Informed by the city’s past as much as by the present, these solutions will intersect modern ideas with historical accomplishments.

The participating schools and the specific design disciplines represented in this exhibition include Art Institute of Philadelphia (multi-media design), Drexel University (interior design), Moore College of Art and Design (fashion design), Philadelphia University (textile design), Temple University/Tyler School of Art (graphic design), University of the Arts (industrial design) and University of Pennsylvania/Penn Praxis (architecture and urban design).
