Information for Artists
The 40th Street Artist-in-Residence Program currently has facilities at 4007 and 4013 Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia.The studios are located in two stately 19th-century buildings situated near shops, restaurants and movie theaters, and adjacent to the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The buildings have back yards that can be used for assembling larger pieces, and basement work areas.
Admission to the program is currently by nomination only. Residents
are selected by an advisory board consisting of area artists and
members of community arts organizations in West Philadelphia. The
program is intended mainly for emerging artists who live in neighborhoods
west of the Schuylkill River.
