Over the
next few years, SEPTA will have more than ten Calls for Artists,
including six for new stations in West Philadelphia and Millbourne.
The Call for Artists is a formal request for professional artists
to submit a resume and slides of sample work. A panel then selects
as many as five semi-finalists who are paid to create a model
of their proposed work.
Each station
will have individually selected commissioned original art. Each
Call will present an opportunity for working artists to be paid
a commission for a public work that will be viewed by the thousands
of people who use each station daily.
IF YOU
are a
working artist,
have
little or no experience creating public art, and
need
to know the process and techniques for submitting a winning
response to a Call for Artists.
THIS
WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!
You will:
1. Learn the details of the Call for Artists process, how it
works and how you can become a part of it.
2. Get tips and technical advice on low cost ways of presenting
your work on slides that are required as part of your submission.
3. Hear artists who have translated their creative ideas into
public art discuss and describe the process.
4. Find out how to translate your medium into public art-whether
it is water color, oil paint, mosaic tile, sculpture, or most
any other form of art.
SEPTA is
sponsoring this workshop as part of the community outreach for
The El: SEPTA @ Work Market Street Elevated Reconstruction Project.
Local artists with and without public art credentials are encouraged
to participate. If you are a professional artist, your work
can be translated into public art. Come and see how.
A continental
breakfast will be available.
