PAFA VISITING ARTIST LECTURE SERIES
James C. Mumby Visiting Artist Lecture Series

This Lecture Series brings to the Academy each year a select group of highly accomplished artists. On Thursdays, each invited artist presents a public lecture from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Hamilton Auditorium at the Academy's Museum at Broad and Cherry Streets.

Theorist and Philosopher Arthur C. Danto
Danto, art critic for The Nation, is the author of numerous books including Neitzsche as Philosopher, Mysticism and Morality, Narration and Knowledge, and Encounters and Reflections: Art in the Historical Present, a collection of art criticism that won the National Book Critic Circle Prize for criticism in 1990. He is a recipient of two Guggenheim ACLS and a Fullbright Fellowship. He has served as Vice President and President of the American Philosophical Association as well as the President of the American Society for Aesthetics, editor for the Journal of Philosophy and consulting editor for various other publications.
He received his MA and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
