| Artist Statement
My art is one source of my guidance. We talk about everything together. It awakens my understanding, compassion, ignorance, rage, wisdom, and the ability to take a new perspective. When I start with a medium, I often think that I am going to improve. Knowing my work in the moment is what I come to know with great interest. Trying to improve, I could wait forever. So, I approach my art as I am in the present. Every stroke counts, every emotion or thought guides me to my weaknesses and, with that, my strengths.
My art gives me the knowledge that I am less rooted then I think. Working with my art gives me many opportunities to open up or shut down. If I am honest about my ignorance with the medium, I will never know what I fear. From the start of my art work, till the very end, I watch whatever surfaces. I work the subject matter again and again looking at it for what it is. As the work comes to a close, I let go and let go.
