Artist Statement
Whenever someone asks me how long I’ve been creating art, my reply is the same. "Ever since I could pick up a pencil." Since I was little, I’ve known that all I wanted to do was put what I see on paper. To create is the one true thing that fulfills my spirit. I have been lucky enough on my journey of creativity to have been encouraged, inspired, taught, and guided by some truly amazing people.

Contrast, drama, intensity, atmosphere and rich emotive qualities are what I strive to convey in my work. Whether it is a landscape, portrait, or an abstract expression, I hope to make the viewer experience how I feel about what I see. Travel, music, theater, books, and nature are just a few things that feed my creative appetite.

Among my visual influences are Vermeer, Joseph Mallord William Turner, Gianlorenzo Bernini, N.C. Wyeth, Thomas Eakins, Mary Cassatt, and Gustave Klimt. Aural inspiration comes from Peter Gabriel, Sade, Mozart, Ennio Morricone, Judy Garland, Indigo Girls and many more.

There are three primary mediums I enjoy, each for a different reason. Pastels and charcoal offer a loose and gestured arm, great for larger formats. Watercolors are a give and take game for me, and often the medium itself dictates the end result. Finally printmaking offers a vast range of possibilities from the unpredictable monotype to the painstaking and tedious world of etching. I am not interested in being categorized as a certain kind of artist who paints a certain subject matter. I am myself a work in progress. Putting down what I see on paper is what I do and my desire is to move the viewer to feel.
