Artist Statement
I don't remember a time when I didn't create. I don't remember a time where I knew how to have idle hands, or a quiet mind. There is another voice inside that is not able to speak in words, and yet must be expressed. This voice is from a higher place and runs through every human. I think that we, as humans, seek to define ourselves or leave evidence of our existence. Since the beginning of time, humans have been telling their lives on the walls of caves and in the form of monuments and statues. The medium may change, the message may vary but the motivation is innate and remains the same: the desire to communicate and to express oneself, as well as the need to understand and define ourselves to define humankind.

My own motivation comes from the need to understand human relationships- the expectation, the demands, the force we exact upon one another from day to day. I have chosen computer-aided design as my medium, partly because of the fluidity of form which it affords me, but also because of the great symbol it is of the time in which we live. In contrast to the modernity of the computer, jewelry and the act of adorning oneself are the most ancient and primitive means of expression or, self-definition.

What is more human than seeking to express oneself? The exact nuances of “what” in particular I am seeking to express are vast and deep. Life can be so complicated and traumatic so much so that you don't know what to say. There are not always words for the things we think and feel we do not always want to say what we've experienced in life. I think making art offers an alternative language to where words do not suffice.

In an effort to over-simplify things: To make art is to be human.
