Artist Statement
My general statement starts by saying
that Relationships are never easy . . . especially those between
color, shape, texture, space and especially tension.
No matter what the materials these relationships apply.
This new series of works was created using aluminum
printing press plates which were cut and sanded and in
some cases painted or left in their original state.
They all are about energy . . . of all kinds: creative, biological,
sexual. Titles like Mass Transit are metaphorical and satirical
while still expressing energy.
These pieces, especially Herd Mentality, change as you walk by
them using the play of light on the fragments of aluminum -
almost like impressionist brushstrokes moving across the
panels - the viewer becoming an interactive
a part of the process.
