Artist Statement
Plastic Card Mosaics
Amy Orr makes art from a pallet of materials including chicken bones, shattered auto glass, plastic parts, religious mementos, twist ties, currency and dollar store multiples. She is fascinated by the ordinary; drawn to consumer by-products that resonate with inherent social content.

Most recently, Amy Orr has been working with credit and other plastic cards She collects the cards worldwide, cuts them up and uses the pieces to construct mosaic-like compositions. As the plastic card collection grows, so does the scope of the work. The multilayered content addresses current events, international trade, politics, appropriation, identity and commodity. Orr's craftsmanship and process present an ironic perspective from which to consider the material and materiality of her work.
