Artist Statement
A Non-Traditional Path Toward the Traditional
There is no such interior in existence as the ones I paint. I want to create an imaginary room with a history, a feeling that people have lived there, that one piece of furniture has a story to tell, that the light coming in has a mystery to it.

My paintings are small because I want viewers to feel that they are looking through a tiny doorway into a room. Although the process I've developed is untraditional-assembling into one composite on paper my own scanned down drawings, washes that make up walls and peeling ceilings, blocked-out squares of white to serve as window sources - I then seal it and begin to paint in traditional oil paints. The paintings are finished with sometimes as many as 10 glazes.
