Artist Statement
For well over twenty years, the primary focus of my work has been the figure.

Intuitively, the figure, metamorphosed into a new shape – the house.

My contemplative structures, House Series: Red and Blue, explore the juxtaposition of memory, nature and commentary on the isolation of contemporary life in Western culture.

Form deconstructed and made anew is at the heart of my mixed material paintings. In both ‘the figure’ and ‘the house’ my investigation in which monochromatic compositions are altered by light and the conditions under which they are seen and my monochromatic palate, opens up, rather than limits my imagery.

The Red House and Blue House Series are composed in stark style that brings to mind silhouettes in various colors offered via layers upon layers of pigment. My tactile House Series paintings both ‘reveal’ and ‘conceal’ their history of evolution.
