Artist Statement
In many of my photographs, I work with dualities such as: inside/outside, beginning/ending, and private persona/public image. The clothing in these photographs retains the imprint of time and the changes that help inform that passage. Wrinkles, soft edges, tears and stains, marks the trail of our passing. As we leave behind, or figuratively shed that outer layer, we unburden ourselves of an old mask and expose the new version of our old selves.

One of the questions that recurs in my work deals with who we are and how we got to be who we are. These works speak of transformation and role playing, of putting on and taking off, of stepping into another skin. Jung talks about our many selves and how each one is us - separately and collectively. My work is not about realism, but about the reality we each hold within. What is seen, what is hidden, what is revealed about us. I question how we see ourselves and how time and distance temper our perspective.

These images are photograms. I do not use a camera. The emulsion is hand applied cyanotype. They range in size from 22" x 30" to 60" x 66".
