Artist Statement
You Can Search Me series
The photographs in this series depict old and damaged books. They highlight the subtle and remarkable detail of the effects of time as well as preserve the books in their transitory state of decay. Some of these photographs focus on specific facets of this evolution and others pull away showing the books’ full forms and tattered edges. Together, the images consider the layers of weathered, torn, and folded pages, bindings and covers. They reveal these books as objects to be seen and not just read.

You Can Search Me is the title of a book written by Hugh McHugh published in 1905. It is one of the first books that I photographed in this series. Though I have never actually read McHugh’s text it has left a significant visual impact on me.
