Artist Statement
MadelineHauptman believes Art and Math are related. In Math, the puzzle is the mathematical problem; in Art, the puzzle is to complete a painting by determining what works best visually, what solves the logical question of ultimate balance, color and design. Madeline Hauptman earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts and Mathematics from the S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. For twenty-five years, Madeline has been creating paintings, patenting products and enthusiastically tutoring math to pass on and practice her puzzle-solving craft.

Madeline Hauptman is the painter of Sea-Light (tm) - paintings that depict the ever-changing, reflected light dancing on seas around the world. You can order a stylized oil painting of your favorite landscape, seascape, home or portrait. You can also purchase Madeline’s original oil paintings or limited-edition, collectible prints (exhibited here). Exquisite framing is available.

Madeline was selected to design and create a large stained-glass memorial mural, installed above the doors in a Public School Library in Scarsdale, New York. Working in this medium inspired her to create unique, stained-glass, illuminated tables.

Madeline has designs in two museums, based on her several patents on tennis rackets. Her first tennis racket invention was an innovative, patented, three-directionally strung racket called, MAD RAQ (Madeline’s Racket) and is on permanent display in both Wimbledon Museum in London, England, and Museum of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. She designed the racket because she enjoyed playing tennis but was very sensitive to the vibrations she felt in her arm while playing. Having studied Math and Fine Arts, Madeline could design the uniquely-strung tennis racket prototypes. Recently, she co-patented a design for Diagonally-strung rackets called, PowerAngle Rackets. They excellently alleviate the strain on a player’s arm by dispersing the impact along equal-length Diagonals, as well as providing added spin, control and power. They are for sale at www.PowerAngle.net and www.TennisWarehouse.com.

Madeline has had a one-woman show at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, and her work has been exhibited in galleries in Philadelphia and New York City. She has sold many paintings to private art collectors and has done numerous commissioned paintings. She is currently working on a Sea-Light tm oil painting of a creek in Westhampton, Long Island, New York, and a series of portraits and paintings of musicians performing.

In December, 2005, Madeline donated a print of Thailand Black Boat (#7 above) to be exhibited at a charity event called, ArtHelps.org, which holds an annual art auction gallery show, attended by 400 guests, to raise money for two Washington D.C. charities, and the word received after the event was that Madeline's print was much talked about and bid on very well.
